Introduction to Screen Reader Accessibility
There are just a few known issues with screen reader accessibility for the blind and visually impaired. With the right know-how and a little bit of persistence, the ‘work-arounds’ allow for visually impaired players to fully enjoy the game of Tribalwars. This page explains tips and tricks to getting the most out of your gaming experience.
Robot Blocking
The foremost hindrance to players using screen readers is the “bot protection” system. This random event calls up a special web page designed to prevent robot programs from accessing the game. It is considered important to disallow players from using such bots to send commands to the game servers. On the down side, the same system also very effectively prevents screen readers from gaining access to the game.
In the “bot protection” page, players are asked to click the image of a broken link. There is no known method for using a screen reader to do this, so it must be done by a sighted person. If you don’t have one standing ready, then submit a support ticket to the staff of game moderators asking for help. Additionally, you can join the #tribalwars IRC channel and request that your support ticket be addressed.
Graphical Village Overview
Another hindrance to screen reader accessibility is the “graphical village overview”. This format for displaying the main village page provides several stumbling blocks for screen reader navigation. The alternate “classical village overview” method is far better at organizing the information in a meaningful format. Players using screen reader software are urged to click the link labeled “switch to classical village overview” on any main village page.
