General

Resources are the building blocks for the game. There are 3 types, and one additional thing that works a bit differently.

Wood

Wood is obtained via your Timber camp. The higher the level of this the faster you gain wood. Wood is a very important resource in the very early stages of the game when trying to build Spear fighters (often used for early-world farming). These resources are used a lot in the making of units that use the bow (Archers, Mounted Archers). It is also used a lot in the making of Buildings, the Clay Pit especially.

Clay

Clay is obtained via your Clay Pit. The higher the level of this the faster you gain clay. These resources are used a lot in the making of Buildings and is used for the majority of things throughout the game, a lot in the production of your Timber camp and Wall. So you should always have a lot of clay in your warehouse.

Iron

Iron is obtained via your Iron mine. The higher the level of this the faster you gain Iron. Iron is used a lot with Heavy Cavalry and most buildings. Initially this resource tends to be less used than the others. This is why you see more people using Iron to get other resources at the Market, though it should be mentioned that early-world farmers will need a lot of iron in order to produce light cavalry. At higher levels Iron becomes more vital and in higher demand whereas wood is incredibly easy to get. This is why at higher levels you see more people using Wood to get other resources, namely Iron, at the Market

Villagers

This is the more original 'resource' - this is basically the population of your village. This works differently, this works as a "maximum" rather than a constant rate of production. Upgrading buildings uses up space in your villagers allowance, you can increase this allowance by upgrading your farm, which requires no villagers to upgrade, just resources.

Storage

Your storage is the maximum amount of resources that you can hold at one time, the number is increased by upgrading your Warehouse. The number applies to each resource separately. It is not a total for all of them (Villagers are excluded in this, see above section on villagers). It is advised to always keep this limit higher than what it will get to. If you play often your Warehouse doesn't have to be so big (because when you play often, you use up the stored resources so the warehouse doesn't fill up) , but if you take longer breaks its an advantage to not let resources go to waste by trying to create more resources than your warehouse can hold.
