Research Level

The research level of a unit can range from one to three. Research is carried out at the smithy. Higher levels generally mean stronger units.

Effects and costs

The exact effect of levels on units can often be found on that unit's wikipage. There is roughly a 25% increase in attack and defence from level one to lvel two, and 12.5% from level two to level three.

Costs for upgrades can also usually be found at the wikipage of the specific unit. Note that for most units, level one also needs to be researched, without which the unit cannot be trained at all. Research costs vary from unit to unit; the cost for upgrading from level one to two is four times the cost of researching a unit, and upgrading from level two to three is four times the cost of upgrading from one to two. Upgrading from level two to three is thus sixteen times the cost of first researching the unit.

Limits

There is a limit of fifteen upgrades per village, and it is therefore not possible to have all units at their maximum levels. A level-three unit obviously counts for three upgrades, and a level-one unit for one. It is thus possible to have five units at maximum level, or more at lower levels. It is possible to undo a research in order to rebalance the levels of units, but no resources will be returned.

Unit levels are not available in all worlds. In some there is merely the difference between not researched and researched, where the latter is the same as level one in worlds with unit levels.
