Templates

I have good love with the Wiki format. I have been looking over the templates created and noticed that on some pages(like Wiki-Rules) you have simply added a template. This is a bad method, information should be added straight onto the pages instead of just adding the information to a template. some people are less skilled with the wiki so will find it hard to edit if everything is made up for templates! --84.67.94.76 15:55, 26 July 2007 (CEST)

To add, this current wiki is informative. It needs a "Main-Page" for each section(eg - buildings) then sub-pages for all the buildings ( eg - stable). This also means you need an efficient linking system. Alot of Wiki's use a hierarchy which is a good idea to start. --84.67.94.76 15:57, 26 July 2007 (CEST)
It's a wiki, so if you think something needs to be done, then go on and do it! :) 62.117.85.84 01:23, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
Main page is protected, no-one can edit that. While it is protected it cannot be improved. As for the templates i have been working on the Stub template. --Oscardog(Talk) 14:18, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

Protected...

It's no longer protected. Morthy 18:38, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
Thankyou. I hope users respond in a positive manner. --Oscardog(Talk) 18:39, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

Categories

We need to start creating, on every page, categories. So for example Swordsmen, Axemen etc could go into a and things such as a stable go into . All wiki's sort things into categories and its helpful and makes things easy to monitor. --Oscardog(Talk) 16:09, 26 July 2007 (CEST)

QUESTION

i am new to wiki editing, but am a good player, how do u organise the category thing

Firstly welcome. Secondly whenever you post on a Talk page always sign the end of the comment with four tiles(~~~~. Now to add a category check the other pages that are similar. So if you wanted to add Stable to a category you might check the Workshop page to check you are adding it to the right category. Then simply add to the bottom of the page

Anymore questions or need some help leave me a message on my talk page. --Oscardog(Talk) 11:09, 16 August 2007 (CEST)

Templates(different to the above post)

Last comment, i think. We need to start generalizing pages. So each page looks the same. So for infantry a template needs to be created. Then all the infantry pages should look the same in style. --Oscardog(Talk) 16:12, 26 July 2007 (CEST)

i agree, i say (maybe not good) colour coding, like red(faint) background for x, blue for y, so on --Dunland 15:05, 16 August 2007 (CEST)

Wiki appearance

I love the colour theme but the enormous edit links are a bit distracting. I guess the idea is to encourage people to contribute but I'd rather they were smaller and aligned to the right, wikipedia style. Peterzzz 01:33, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

Should be better now.. --Morthy 19:02, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
nope the edit button should be smaller, and on the left, like most wiki's. --Oscardog(Talk) 19:10, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

Sister project, tribeopedia

Well as people seem set on recording there tribes on here, which shouldn't be allowed as this is a TW information site, not a TW Tribe site there should be a "sister" project that you can have your won tribe page. I have worked closely on a similar project and would love to have the opportunity to start it up. --Oscardog(Talk) 14:20, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

To add, instead of a whole new wiki(which would be more suitable and easier to manage) i would gladly work on a new section of this wiki for a tribal-list. --Oscardog(Talk) 17:26, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
Once i have the say so, if im allowed to begin development, i will start immediately. --Oscardog(Talk) 17:39, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
Sounds good to me, maybe a list of tribes for each world? --Morthy 18:43, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
That was my plan :D A new wiki would be nice, maybe tribeopedia? If you take a look at The dofus guildopedia i have something in mind similar to that. What do you think? --Oscardog(Talk) 18:45, 27 July 2007 (CEST)
I don't think it would be too viable to get a new wiki installed. --Morthy 18:47, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

True, would be alot simpler though. For example i really could do with no-one editing any of the pages until there complete. This of course is not possible because if you protected it then i cannot edit it myself :P --Oscardog(Talk) 18:49, 27 July 2007 (CEST)

no offence guys, but it is kinda, rubbish, as i c it, u can only have 3 tribes, or something like that, i think that we should have a ranking table thing, as well as ingame, this will save switching from website to website, it can also be improved, in my opinion, by, defaulting it by having the member numbers, points, and rank.--Dunland 15:15, 16 August 2007 (CEST)

Ok... Firstly you can have more than "three" tribes per Letter. The Tribe1 - Tribe5 is simply an example... So basically you can add more. A ranking system takes time, and i dont think it is possible at this moment in time. I am current designing a template for use on tribe pages. Kinda of like a "statbox" which will have 5-6 useful piece of information on it. --Oscardog(Talk) 18:13, 16 August 2007 (CEST)

DPL

There is a new handy DPL that alot of other Wiki's have. As this is a new wiki i thought it would already have it... but it seems that it doesn't. DPL stands for Dynamic Page List, it basasically allows you to randomly general links to pages that are in a certain category. So on the main page, on the right, we could have a DPL that shows stubs. It would only show maybe 5-8 results and would change each time. This would greatly help as people who are unsure what pages need work, can simple use the DPL to find pages for them to work on. --Oscardog(Talk) 12:05, 29 July 2007 (CEST)

Wiki noobs

I want to be able to help and contibute to the wiki, but have...well lets say no knowlage other than the obvious stuff that i can see ther people do. so if a 'how to wiki' page was set up, it would make things easier for a lot of people.

now to copy what other people do, see if i get it right:

--Stormweaver(Talk)

i kinda agree, i am new to this, but it is very simple when it is already started, i get by ;) --Dunland 15:10, 16 August 2007 (CEST)
This wiki doesn't have the Wiki Help section installed, but a wiki is a wiki, so you can always just go over to Wikipedia and read the help there. It's extensive and should explain how to do anything you want to do. --StormD
Something better is meta Wiki. I wonder if this works? I'll use a Wikipedia thing -- m:Help did it work? if not, then just go to [1] hope this helps!! Akira Otomo, the Wiki Ninja (Talk | Contributions | Happy-Wiki Project) 22:51, 16 February 2008 (CET)

Activeness on this Wiki...

I have not yet seen barely any activity on this wiki. The only activity is from a few user such as William the silent. We need a proper in-game announcement, like a circular mail but on a global world server scale so everyone receives a message, otherwise this wiki is going to remain inactive and not used. --Oscardog(Talk) 20:29, 10 August 2007 (CEST)

Whilst that is understood, the Wiki is an ongoing project and we are not looking to rush. I will look to do a global announcement in the near future, but I need to be reassured that you are prepared for users to come here in bulk and deal with them accordingly. If you're happy with that then please make contact with me, either through IRC or Forums and we'll see what we can come up with. --JayJ(Talk) 16:08, 11 August 2007
Can't see why we are not prepared. I shall, in the near future, make a page... like an intro to new users to inform them what to do. How to register... how to edit...etc. Also are you going to be active on this Wiki Jay? Morthy of late hasn't been on in the last couple of days and im the only active sysop. I could do with some help, for example a forum for this wiki would be nice. Not to discuss game updates and such. A "Help Desk" would be an idea, an area where users can ask for help on there tribal account, or help on this wiki. But to add a forum i need to be beaurocrat, and only Beaurocrat is Morthy who is currently not active ;(. --Oscardog(Talk) 17:30, 11 August 2007 (CEST)

Links...

Right we have most of the pages... for buildings and units. Yes they lack quite a bit of info but that can all be sorted. The issue that needs addressing now is the link system. In order to get to any useful pages you have to search, which is time consuming and gets rather tedious. So we need to think and design a way to make links to the "Main" information pages. Such pages include Buildings. This page has minor information on buildings and then has links to all the individual building pages. Same with the Infantry pages and the Cavalry pages. So anyone got any ideas how to put links on the main page in an ordered and tidy way? --Oscardog(Talk) 17:43, 11 August 2007 (CEST)

Problems...

I have a few problems with this wiki. One is we do not have a forum, i think Morthy has to request one but i am not sure. Seconly we do not have the <inputbox> tag. This is a useful tag and i cant understand why most wiki's have it except ours. --Oscardog(Talk) 12:47, 13 August 2007 (CEST)

ALSO

i think that not only a forum should be created, but a kinda, chat, not irc, but chat box thing for all users, as, this will get ppl help immedietly.--Dunland 14:11, 15 August 2007 (CEST)

The wiki itself is typically the forum. If you make a separate forum, people will spend their time there instead of in the wiki. Use talk pages for the "forum". We could create Project pages it we wanted to have an area to talk generally about something (like the Tribeopedia) or other namespaces (no, I have no idea how to create a namespace). --Habap 16:42, 30 August 2007 (CEST)

Index?

I think that maybe an index page for things such as buildings, troops, strategies and tribes would be a nice addition. The links could be on the main page as well, which would make the whole structure better overall and it would be way easier to navigate. I'd be glad to do this if i knew how to create new pages (for the index)

Yeh good idea. Already mentioned above by me i think. Havn't had time to get around to making main page links to pages yet ;) --Oscardog(Talk) 21:26, 6 September 2007 (CEST)

Speed Round Start

I've quitted TW on w10 so I want to make a guide for Speed Round :) This guide is just tested by Speed 200 ( 1Hour protection )

  1. When you know that the next round starts at 18:00 Hour then you try to exactly log on then and be Fast !
  2. Timber/Clay
  3. Timber/Clay
  4. Timber/Clay
  5. Iron
  6. Timber to Lvl 4
  7. Iron to Lvl 3
  8. Clay to 5
  9. Continue until 13/10/9 ( I recommend to upgrade Clay to 10 after you have timber 8 )
  10. Build Barracks and recruit 30 Spears
  11. Wall
  12. Market ( If you feel you need it )
  13. 13/10/11
  14. Get smithy to lvl 2 and research axeman and build 150 of them
  15. 14/13/12
  16. Get stable and some scouts then scout ALL villages around you !
  17. recruit axeman until you have 200 of them
  18. 15/14/15
  19. Get Light Cavalry ( I recommend a ratio of 3.5 between axes and Light cavalrys )
  20. Try to have 2/3 axes of your points
  21. Boost your mines to 20/18/20
  22. Get your workshop and build some rams ( I recommend a ratio of 4 between Light Cavalrys and Rams )
  23. Then get about 20-30 Catapults and send them always in clean Offenses to make yourself farms
  24. Now its on your own if you want to play on nobling or Mines
  25. Now you are on Rank 20 if you had good farms

End of the tutorial Wish you all good l7uck !

New Paragraph on the Main Page

Hi Oscardog,

Can we please add the following below to help us to get people to sign up rather than using their IP. This way we can help to identify if it has been written by someone on the outside, somebody on the inside or has been written by a BOT

Please Sign Up
Signing up helps us to determine who is writing to our wiki, and can help in the protection of your work! If you do sign up please use your Tribal Wars User Name as this will help us to determine who you are.

I agree, we need something on the main page to tell new people that they should join before they post.--Jjjtts6 20:46, 4 November 2007 (CET)
Encourage is a more proper word rather than "they should" unless you guys want a private wiki so that would mean to change provider and also loose many potential editors (like i tend to avoid private wikis), also there are some bots that creates accounts. Any way i edit to inform that the link could be ==Please Sing Up== same effect and shorter (also if you change servers will not affect you) --cizagna (201.155.91.147 19:40, 5 January 2008 (CET))

Added World 14

Due to the recent news of the World 14 release, I added World 14 to the current events with some info following it. I also added World 14 to the World list in the bottom right corner. Third, I created the World 14 page. Since it is known that the settings and versions will be the same as World 13, I copied the settings part and pasted it in. Towards the top I added a note that the settings were the same. ~Donedude~

P.S. I have just joined the TW wiki and plan to help out as much as I can. If you need something done, I will try my hardest to do the task needed.

Welcome, Akira-otomo, to the TW Wiki. Looking through your user page, you seem to be very involved with many groups and have many ideas. Although I think that your project is an interesting thing, I suggest you consult Oscardog (Admin) about your ideas.

No offense.--Jjjtts6 02:31, 16 January 2008 (CET)

Well, I think that if you think that the front page is boring and old then you should create your own on a seperate page and then suggest it as a change to Oscardog. Not trying to be offensive but If you think that it is old then you must have some idea on how to make it better. Yours Ex-Sys-op Ocbaker 10:34, 12 February 2008

I suggest moving the bottom portion of the current main page. The 'Article archive' can be main on a seperate page, then simply leave the big brown bar containing

Article archive Search this wiki!

This would clean up MUCH of the space taken and still leave it looking nice - Demon - Talk .:|:. Happy-Wiki Project 00:13, 17 February 2008 (CET)

Yeh, but ive changed it now, have a look at the next header (if you haven't already!!). Akira Otomo, the Wiki Ninja (Talk | Contributions | Happy-Wiki Project) Help me become a Moderator, support me!! 19:20, 18 February 2008 (CET)

Changed again, have a look: User:Akira-otomo/New Main Page I did that thing with the less of the table, it bhas lowered the byte size4 dramatically! I also added that thing about Happy-Wiki. AO

Yeh it dramatically dropped the byte size because there is are no helpful links like the current table? --OscardogTalk.::.Admin

no, click on the 'Article Index' or whatever it's calloed, and it'll take ya to the table. AO

Changed ity back, no point. Is anyone going to join Template Wiki? AO Seems not... Well i guess its not popular, too many projects i think. Also i'd give up with your main page, im afraid its pretty similar to the new one i implemented... and we dont need a new one. --OscardogTalk.::.Admin

Could we have this on the main page:
Main Page:Tribal Wars Wiki

Please!! AO THe code is:
<div style="background-color:#000000; font-size: 150%; color:#ffffff; margin:10px; border: none; -moz-border-radius: 10px; text-align:center;"><font face="century schoolbook">Main Page:Tribal Wars Wiki<br /></font></div><br /> No but not because it doesnt look good. Its simply the matter that it would look terrible with other colour schemes and other skins, remember there are 6 core skins every wiki has that users may use. Sorry :) --OscardogTalk.::.Admin

Ahh, well. that's life. AO

Happy-Wiki

I editied my New Page thing and stuck something about Happy-Wiki on it, so can people plaese check if this apropriate, and if so, change it please, I dopn't want to ghet it wrong. New Box needed for Main Page

Well there is space for one small box on the right, under the list of SysOps and Admins. It needs to be compact information that users may directly need, rather than information on the game. Im open to any suggestions, maybe a list of projects? But as none are that active and are fully complete i am reluctant to implement that. Ideas please! --OscardogTalk.::.Admin

Can we use it for WikiProjects (Tribeopedia, Happy-Wiki, Template Wii, ect.)? Please!! AO

Please read. I said im reluctant to use it for that as many of the projects are not active nor complete. Other ideas first. --OscardogTalk.::.Admin

kk, but can you join Template Wiki? Please, I've got no one to work with! Everything I try goes wrong for me, the New Main Page, THat Tribe thing, and now thw Wikiproject; everything I do falls apart around me. AO

Cant you work on pages to standardise then? Like buildings, make them all look the same with all the same information. I think the amount of projects on the wiki is stupid, there are too many and i refuse to join each one when most of the time the projects are useless. Plus until the wiki is active projects will not work. --OscardogTalk.::.Admin
